The second half of 2018 provided more opportunities for the South African Pharmacy Council to meet with the profession and provide updates on the work of Council and to resolve service queries from registered persons. We are grateful to have been invited to five industry-organised conferences to interact with delegates.

The South African Pharmacy Council has honoured several invitations to attend conferences hosted by the profession during the year. These conferences presented the SAPC with an opportunity to engage with pharmacists, pharmacy support personnel and other industry stakeholders. Resolution of queries, information on SAPC programmes and on other key activities were shared with delegates at the five conferences the organisation attended.

The Office of the Registrar attended and exhibited at the Local Choice Conference (16-18 August 2018 at the Birchwood Hotel & Conference Centre), Gauteng Pharmaceutical Services Conference (13 September 2018, Birchwood Hotel), South African Association of Pharmacists in Industry (SAAPI) Conference (14-15 October 2018, Bytes Conference Centre, Midrand), Clicks Conference (7-8 November 2018, Emperors Palace) and Gauteng Pharmacist’s Assistants Conference (9 November 2018 St Georges Hotel and Conference Centre).

The SAPC Register & CEO, Mr Amos Masango, delivered a key note address [1] to the SAAPI Conference. His address provided insight into the approved education qualifications enabling specialisation in industrial pharmacy and updates on developments on the training of pharmacy support personnel since the expiry of current pharmacist’s assistant qualifications.

SAPC officials manning the exhibition stand at these conferences were able to attend to various service requests and queries relating to applications, finance and online transactions from delegates. They also carried information material to remind delegates of the upcoming 3rd National Pharmacy Conference [2] to be held on 3 – 5 October 2019 at Sun City, North West.
