SAPC - Pharmaciae - CPD

The importance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for the pre-registration year

It is a registration requirement for pharmacist interns to submit eight Continuing Professional Development activities (CPDs) during their internship year. Interns registered from January 2018 are advised to start preparing their CPD records at the beginning of the year as guided by the Intern and Tutor Manual for the Pre-registration Experience of Pharmacist Interns and other CPD guidance documents available on the SAPC website. Interns must only submit these CPDs after attending the workshops planned in March 2018 as more information on CPDs will be provided at the workshops.

Pharmacist interns ought to pay attention to the CPD submission deadlines and plan appropriately as late submissions may result in interns not completing their internship within the stipulated time.

Tutors are required to mentor interns in their pre-registration programme, which includes ensuring that interns submit quality CPDs within the required timelines indicated in the intern / tutor manual. Therefore, once interns submit their CPDs, after attending the workshops, the CPDs will be available for tutors to verify and submit online to the SAPC for assessment. If a tutor does not submit their intern’s CPDs online, they will not be available for assessment by the SAPC and this will disadvantage the intern. It is, therefore, an offense for the tutor to not submit the intern’s CPDs and progress reports by the indicated deadlines, and this may result in the SAPC taking disciplinary action against the tutor.
