What is new in law? Legislation amendments October 2017 – July 2018

On 13 July 2018, the Minister of Health published for comment the Regulations relating to continuing professional development (GNR 707 of 13 July 2018) in terms of the Pharmacy Act, 53 of 1974. The comment period is three (3) months, and comments must reach the Director-General: Health on or before 13 October 2018.

Repeal of the Rules relating to Good Pharmacy Practice – in terms of Board Notice 84 of 2018 published on 15 June 2018, Board Notice 35 of 2012 is repealed in so far as it relates to GPP Rule 1.2.2 – Another business or practice in a pharmacy or a pharmacy in another business.

The Competency Standards for pharmacists in South Africa were published on 11 May 2018, under Board Notice 59 of 2018.

On 23 March 2018, under Board Notice 43 of 2018, Council published the revised fees payable to Council due to the increase in VAT to 15% that became applicable on 1 April 2018.

The Good Pharmacy Education Standards were published for implementation in Board Notice 183 of 2017, on 17 November 2017.

The Rules relating to Good Pharmacy Practice – Minimum standard for the sale of HIV self-screening test kits were published under Board Notice 184 of 2017, on 17 November 2017.
