Registrar Amos Masango is upbeat about the much-awaited 2nd National Pharmacy Conference, and rightly so.
He reflects on the success of the first conference in 2013, and urges the profession to make every effort to be in Durban for this, the second conference, which has the hallmark of exceeding expectations.

National Pharmacy Week is celebrated annually in September and is an opportunity for pharmacists to champion the profession and the contribution pharmacists make to the health and wellbeing of the people of South Africa.
National Pharmacy Week falls between 5 and 11 September this year, and the 2016 theme is Use Medicine Safely. Council is appealing to the profession to make this year’s National Pharmacy Week the most memorable ever.

Council, as the authorised regulator of pharmacists, pharmacy support personnel and pharmacy premises, provides clarity on the minimum standards relating to the supervision of pharmacy support personnel.

On 2 March 2015, Council published Board Notice 35 as an amendment to the minimum standards for pharmacy premises, facilities and equipment. After further consideration, Council made additional amendments to Board Notice 35.

Bachelor of Pharmacy students are required to complete 400 hours of work-integrated learning (WIL) in their overall study programme, and providers offering education and training for a qualification in pharmacy are obligated to include these structured experiential learning periods in their curricula.
