2024 EXAMINATION RESULTS

2024 has been a busy year for Pharmacist Interns and Pharmacy Support Personnel with the pre-registration examinations, External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) for Pharmacist’s Assistants (Basic) and professional examinations for foreign-qualified persons.

Pre-registration Examination for Pharmacist Interns

The pre-registration examination is one of the compulsory steps towards registration as a pharmacist. As a Pharmacist Intern, you are required to sit for a compulsory practice examination to help acclimatise yourself to the online examination conditions prior to writing the pre-registration examination.

To qualify for the pre-registration examination, a Pharmacist Intern should have completed a minimum of five (5) months (i.e. in their 6th month) of the internship, submitted at least six (6) CPD entries and be competent in three (3) CPD entries by the time of the examination booking. Interns should also ensure that there are three (3) favourable progress reports submitted by their Tutor so that they can write the exam.

A total of 153 Pharmacist Interns wrote the pre-registration examination in March 2024 and attained an 84.97% pass rate, 536 Pharmacist Interns wrote in August 2024 with a 95.34% pass rate, and 211 Pharmacist Interns wrote in October 2024 with a 95.73% pass rate.

The results of the March 2024 Pre-Registration Examination are provided in Table 1, the results of the August Pre-registration Examination are in Table 2 below, and the results of the October Pre-registration Examination are in Table 3 below

Pharmacist Interns repeating the examination are required to complete both sections of the examination regardless of their success in either the calculations or general sections in their previous attempt.

We wish the Pharmacist Interns who are moving on to Community Service in 2025 all the best for their future endeavours.

External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) for Pharmacist’s Assistants (Basic)

The first online EISA for the Occupational Certificate: Pharmacist’s Assistant (Basic) was conducted on 08 April 2024 and sixty-seven (67) candidates wrote the examination. Seventeen (17) candidates were Pharmacist’s Assistant (Learner Basic) registered for the Occupation Certificate and fifty (50) candidates were currently qualified Pharmacist’s Assistant (Basic). The pass rate for the examination was 88.06%.

On 16 September 2024, another online EISA for Occupational Certificate: Pharmacist’s Assistant (Basic) was conducted, and sixty-eight (68) candidates were Pharmacist’s Assistant (Learner Basic) registered for the Occupational Certificate, one hundred and sixty-six (166) candidates were currently qualified Pharmacist’s Assistant (Basic) and one (1) candidate was a Former BPharm student who completed their first year of study. The pass rate was 88.05%.

The results of the April 2024 EISA for Occupational Certificate: Pharmacist’s Assistant (Basic) are provided in Tables 4, 5 and 6, the results of the September 2024 EISA for Occupational Certificate: Pharmacist’s Assistant (Basic) are in Tables 7, 8, 9 and 10 below.

Professional Examination for Foreign-Qualified Persons

Foreign-qualified persons who wish to be registered as pharmacists in South Africa are required to write professional examinations as part of their pre-registration process. Table 11 below shows the results of the professional examinations that took place in May and June 2024, whilst Table 12 shows the results of the professional examinations that took place in October 2024.
